CSI Comes to Waterbury

The Waterbury Police Department’s Crime Lab will bring forensics to life Monday night for local teens. Crime lab investigators will talk about how they secure crime scenes, collect evidence and what goes on at CSI – Waterbury. The event is especially geared towards teens and refreshments will be served.

The event will be in Silas Bronson Library’s auditorium Monday evening at 6 pm.

Police Want Unused Drugs

For the past several years, a new public health concern has been raised about prescription medications getting into public water supplies. It does this when the prescriptions are flushed down the toilet, or even eroded away in landfills. Because prescriptions cause changed within our bodies by altering the way it fights infection and disease, it can have strongly negative consqeuences on fish and wildlife, and even humans as the water cycle progresses.

On Saturday from 10 am – 2 pm, the Wolcott Police Dept. DEA, and CASA (Citizens Against Substance Abuse) will participate in the National Prescription Drug Take Back Day

Wolcott Prepares For Storm; Sand bags Available

Wolcott’s Mayor and department heads met Thursday morning to review and place the finishing touches on their plan for Hurricane Irene. “We don’t really know what will happen – but we reviewed everything. The Code Red system will be utilized when we need it and will probably put out a message over the weekend. It could be as early as Saturday or sometime on Sunday.” The system will be used if a shelter will be opened. Wolcott has three facilities which can be used for emergency shelters and which ones will be opened will be communicated through the Code Red system. Tyrrell, Frisbie, and Wakelee schools are equiped for that task.

The Code Red system can be utilized by any cell phone or e-mail in town, but residents have to sign up for it. You can find this system here.

School Buses Damaged, Classes Resume Wednesday

Classes in town were cancelled Tuesday after bus drivers found 28 buses with deflated tires just before 6:00 am. Wolcott police responded and gathered evidence to find out who may have caused the damage.
