Wolcott Fair Concludes Tonight

With two successful sunny days behind them, the Wolcott Lions Country Fair will conclude with a brilliant fireworks display after 9:15 tonight. The annual fair is the largest event of the year in town and invites young and old alike to enjoy live entertainment, petting zoos, amusement rides, food and general commiserating with long and lost friends. The Lions Club themselves are conducting the raffle of a Harley Davidson motorcycle. The vendor’s and craft tent has some unique offerings ranging from homemade pens and religious woodworking to candles, kitchen knives and general interest.

The price for admission is $8 and parking at area lots ranges from $3 -$5. The fireworks can be viewed in the general area with some of the best viewing spots being the BAW ballfields (set up your chair or blanket on the large baseball field at the bottom of the driveway) and Woodtick Recreation Area.

As of 4:00 pm, a mild shower moved through the fairgrounds and thus far the weekend has been sunny and warm. The weather Sunday is expected to be partly sunny with the chance of a shower or thunderstorm late. So far though storms have skirted around the town.

Waterbury Fireworks Postponed

Waterbury Police have informed the Whisper that the concert and fireworks scheduled for tonight at Municipal Stadium are postponed to tomorrow night.

The band Swing Shift will begin their performance at 7 pm with gates opening at 6 pm. Naugatuck and Quassapaug in Middlebury are also holding their fireworks tomorrow night as well.

Rain and sprinkles throughout today – with the probable chance that they will continue into tonight led to the decision. Showers are moving primarily from north to south in a circular pattern, so the heaviest of rain which as of 4:30 is just over the Hudson Valley may not arrive in the Greater Wolcott area until late this evening.
