Twelve candidates are on the ballot for Board of Education in Wolcott, six from each political party. There are no Row C candidates this year. While the Board will have nine members, votes may only choose six (6). They can be chosen from any of the candidates, even if you vote for a candidate that is in the same column as another choice.
Republicans currently hold control of the Board of Education with a 5-4 majority. All of the current officeholders are running again with the addition of retired Kindergarten teacher Roberta Leonard. Below you can see why Republicans would like you to return them to office.

Why are you running for Board of Education?
I have been on the board the last two years. I originally ran beacause I have 3 children in the school system and I wanted to do everything possible to ensure they receive the best possible education. When my first child started school in Wolcott , I went to most board of education meetings as an observer. My husband and I supported the Board and their budget during presentations to Town Council. Since becoming a member of the Board, my vast financial experience has been invaluable to the budget process. I do not believe any of my challengers on the democratic ticket offer my range of financial expertise.
What skills or experience do you have that will assist you in this position?
2. I have held the position of Cheif Financial Officer for various internet companies and I am presently the Cheif Financial Officer for MPDI of Oxford. I currently hold the position of Cheif Financial Officer. I’m a dedicated mother and passionate about their and the towns childrens education.
IS there a focus or goal you will be particularly passionate about?
3. One of the Board’s goals in the past year has been to continue the alignment of Wolcott’s elementary schools to ensure that the same curriculum is being covered in each school. I have been involved with the initiative and would like to continue driving that. The next goal we have is to align the high school to meet new state guidelines for the 21st century and to improve SAT scores.
Are there any personal traits that make you unique? Do you have any hobbies?
4. I am able to work well with all personality types and have proven to do so during my term. My biggest hobby are my children.
