Thursday Hurricane Updates

– Power was restored to Wolcott High School and all schools will be starting on time today!

– Power was restored to Wolcott Hills and the Laurel Ridge elderly housing community around 7 pm last night

– 195 CL&P customers are still without power in Wolcott

– an effort is being organized to get ice and other supplies to those still without power tomorrow. Contact Chris O’Brien at 203-558-5817

– Hurricane Center is still open today for those wanting a hot meal, can charge phones or check internet.

AT&T Cell Service Hit Hard By Storm

AT&T officials are not offering much information about why their cell phone service is offline throughout large portions of Connecticut, particularly those that were hit hardest by Tropical Storm Irene.

Other networks appear to be functioning a lot better, at least based on an unscientific survey of cell phone users, but CL&P’s ongoing problems are having a domino effect on the telecommunications network.

School Back to Normal Thursday;

Wolcott High School will have its first day of school Thursday.

As of midnight Thursday morning, only 195 customers of CL&P were still out of power in Wolcott. That’s half of the customers who were out from yesterday. Large strides were made in Waterbury where only 3% of their customers are still out of power. On Tuesday night, 1/4 of the city was still in the dark.
