Police Dispatcher Passes To Cancer

Police dispatcher Genene Valletta, 48, passed away Saturday after a battle with cancer. Her family devoted themselves to the town, and Valletta was a Wolcott police officer in 1986-87. Her husband, Dave is on the Town Council. They have two sons, David Jr. and Nathaniel.

Valletta has worked as a police dispatcher for 25 years where her best friends still dispatch. She always had a warm voice and friendly smile for friends and family throughout town. She fought couageiously against the cancer since being diagnosed. On Sept. 11, 2001, she was recieving treatments but still made and brought cookies to volunteers working at Ground Zero in New York City. Town emergency personnel will honor Valletta during funeral services.

Calling hours will be today from 5 to 8 pm at Woodtick Memorial, 420 Woodtick Rd. A celebration of life service will be held Wednesday at 10 am at Woodtick Memorial. Burial will be at the convenience of the family. Memorial gifts may be made to the Valletta Children’s Education Fund c/o Wachovia Bank, 815 Wolcott Rd.
