Mazurek, Caligiuri Vote No on Budget

The House and Senate bodies of the State General Assembly appoved a budget in the early morning hours this morning. On a vote of 103-45, Democrats pushed through a budget in the House. Wolcott’s state reporesentative, John “Corky” Mazurek (D-80th Dist.) joined nine other Democrats in voting against the bill. State Senator Sam Caligiuiri (R-16th Dist.) also voted against the bill. The Senate passed the bill 22-13 with Waterbury State Senator Joan Hartley joining Republicans against it.

It is unclear whether or not the Governor will sign the bill. Democrats called the proposal a “compromise” proposal, a claim that Rep. Craig Miner (R-Morris) questioned. “A compromise with whom?” Republican leader Larry Cafero (R-Norwalk) later noted that if it was a compromise, one would expect an announcement from the Governor’s office. “I have heard no such announcment.”
